The Biblical Role of the Husband
The husband is seen as the spiritual leader of the household. Ephesians 5:23 states, "For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church." This role does not imply dominance but rather responsibility, where his leadership is to be marked by humility, love, and service. Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the church, "giving Himself up for her" (Ephesians 5:25). This love is sacrificial, prioritizing the well-being of his wife and offering her protection emotionally and physically. Additionally, 1 Timothy 5:8 suggests that a husband should provide for his family, encompassing not just financial support but also spiritual and emotional guidance. These are staple roles, but of course your relationship is entirely your own. If you work to serve your partner and become selfless (and vise versa), your relationship will thrive, surpassing many hardships and setbacks simply due to your foundation and obedience in Christ.
